Fleming Timber Structures was proud to contribute to the Burnbrae Road development, a significant project comprising 16 flats, 4 houses, and a retail unit. As one of Scotland’s largest certified Passivhaus projects, this development sets a new benchmark for sustainable and energy-efficient housing, supporting Midlothian Council’s climate strategy and 2030 carbon neutrality goals.
Our involvement focused on the design, manufacture, and erection of the structural timber solutions for the walls, floors and roof. Collaborating closely with the wider project team, we provided a thermally efficient timber frame structure that ensures a thermal bridge-free envelope. This was achieved through the use of I-joist and stud configurations, alongside natural insulation materials, which significantly reduced the embodied carbon of the buildings.
The finished homes and retail spaces meet the highest standards of thermal comfort and energy efficiency, as certified by the rigorous Passivhaus criteria. By working with the Passivhaus Planning Package (PHPP), we ensured that our timber components contributed effectively to the project’s ambitious performance targets.
